Mongol Legacy
After the death of Genghis Khan, his third son, Ogodei, became the khan. Ogodei attempted to cease the nomadic lifestyle by building the capital of the empire at Karakorum. Ogodei’s rule can be speculated as the beginning of the decline of the Mongols, though they continued to expand and rule. The Empire was split among the three remaining sons and Genghis Khan’s favorite grandson. The divisions were the Golden Horde, Il-Khanate, Chagatai Khanate, and Kingdom of the Great Khan, ruled by Kublai Khan. Kublai Khan’s kingdom would eventually become the Yuan Dynasty.
